Collett & Sons Expands Fleet with Greiner BUSY 1050 Bridge System

Collett & Sons Ltd has enhanced its heavy logistics capabilities by adding the Greiner BUSY 1050 bridge crossing system to its fleet, set to debut on a project later this month.

Introduction

Collett & Sons Ltd, a prominent player in the UK heavy logistics sector, has recently expanded its fleet with the addition of the Greiner BUSY 1050 bridge crossing system. This innovative equipment is set to enhance the company’s capacity for heavy transport and logistics projects.

Features of the BUSY 1050

The BUSY 1050 bridge system is designed to support structures up to 25 metres in length, making it versatile for various transport configurations. Key specifications include:

  • Capacity Rating: The system has a maximum load-moment rating of 1,050 tonne-metres, which can vary depending on the crossing span and transport configuration.
  • Adjustable Crossing Length: The crossing length can be modified to suit specific project requirements, allowing for both longer and shorter spans.

Deployment and Initial Project

Collett’s Engineering, Heavy Lift, and Heavy Transport teams will be responsible for the deployment of the BUSY 1050. A trial assembly of the system was successfully conducted at the company’s Goole Heavy Lift depot, ensuring readiness for operational use. The first project utilizing the BUSY 1050 is scheduled for later in September, marking a significant milestone for the company.

Broader Fleet Enhancements

In addition to the BUSY 1050, Collett has also acquired a Greiner Side Girder Bridge with a capacity of 350 tonnes. This new addition is part of a multi-year contract to transport over thirty transformers, each weighing up to 325 tonnes, along a route from Stafford to Ellesmere Port. This acquisition represents the fourth girder bridge in Collett's fleet, complementing existing systems with capacities of 150 tonnes, 250 tonnes, and 550 tonnes.

The new girder system features adjustable side deck lengths ranging from 3 to 18 metres, as well as a hydraulically adjustable internal loading aperture that can be modified from 1.8 to 4.6 metres.

Conclusion

With the integration of the Greiner BUSY 1050 bridge crossing system and the new side girder bridge, Collett & Sons Ltd is well-positioned to enhance its heavy transport capabilities. These advancements not only signify the company’s commitment to expanding its operational capacity but also reflect its strategic approach to meeting the demands of complex logistics projects in the UK.
