Pick Everard Completes Fire Safety Remediation on Nine Salford Residential Blocks

Pick Everard has successfully completed fire safety remediation works on nine residential tower blocks in Salford, addressing critical safety issues identified in previous inspections.

Completion of Fire Safety Works

Pick Everard has announced the successful completion of fire safety remediation works at nine residential tower blocks in Salford. This project was crucial in addressing fire safety concerns that arose following the identification of aluminium composite material (ACM) cladding during a national testing programme initiated in 2017.

Details of the Project

The remediation project involved significant upgrades to enhance fire safety across the residential blocks, which are managed by Pendleton Together Operating Ltd, part of the Together Housing Group. The nine blocks included:

  • Thorn Court
  • Beech Court
  • Whitebeam Court
  • Malus Court
  • Salix Court
  • Spruce Court
  • Holm Court
  • Hornbeam Court
  • Plane Court

The scope of the work encompassed:

  • Replacement of cladding
  • Installation of new insulation
  • Enhancements to fire compartmentation
  • New fire alarm systems
  • Installation of sprinklers

Collaboration and Compliance

Pick Everard served as both the lead designer and principal designer for the project, ensuring compliance with the evolving legislation of the Building Safety Act. The principal contractor for the project was Quaysquare Consult, with additional specialist support from Buro Happold and Wintech. This collaborative effort aimed to meet the stringent requirements set forth by the Building Safety Act 2022, which seeks to improve building safety standards across the UK.

Ongoing Improvements

While remediation works have been completed on the nine blocks, it is important to note that the project is part of a larger programme of safety improvements initiated in response to the Grenfell inquiry. Structural surveys were conducted to support the Building Safety Case for Spruce Court and Thorn Court, ensuring that all legal requirements were met. Although the remediation of two of the buildings has been completed, work on the remaining seven blocks is ongoing, with an expected completion date in spring this year.

Conclusion

The successful completion of fire safety remediation works at these residential blocks marks a significant step towards enhancing safety and compliance in high-rise living environments. As the construction industry continues to adapt to new safety regulations, projects like this underscore the importance of thorough inspections and proactive remediation efforts.
